Advice from a Hampshire Wedding Photographer
First of all — congratulations 🤍
Planning a wedding in Hampshire?
If you’ve just got engaged and you’re starting your wedding planning journey, it can feel equal parts magical and overwhelming. One minute you’re celebrating with family, the next you’re googling venues at midnight wondering where on earth to begin.
As a Hampshire wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of photographing weddings all across the county — from countryside barns to elegant manor houses — and I’ve seen first-hand what makes the planning process smooth, joyful and genuinely exciting.
If you’re planning a Hampshire wedding with a budget between £15,000 and £30,000, here’s exactly where I’d suggest starting.
1. Start With the Feeling, Not the Details
Before booking anything, take a quiet evening together and talk about the atmosphere you want to create.
Do you imagine:
- A relaxed countryside celebration?
- A classic black-tie manor house wedding?
- A laid-back barn with long tables and candles?
- An elegant hotel with everything taken care of?

Hampshire offers such a beautiful range of venues. You might be drawn to the grandeur of Rhinefield House, the seaside charm of The Queens Hotel, or something with a high top view surrounded by The National South Downs Park, like Wylds Christmas Tree Farm.
Each one creates a completely different feel — and that feeling should guide every other decision.
2. Set a Realistic Hampshire Wedding Budget
With a £15k–£30k budget, you can create something incredibly special — but allocation is key.
As a rough guide for Hampshire weddings:
- Venue & catering: 40–50%
- Photography: 10–15%
- Attire: 5–10%
- Flowers & styling: 10–15%
- Entertainment: 5–10%
- Stationery, cake, hair & makeup, transport: remaining balance
- Contingency: 5–10% (always worth having)
Having photographed weddings at every price point, I can gently say this — couples who plan with a buffer tend to enjoy their engagement and planning far more.
3. Secure Your Venue First
Your venue determines:
- Your date
- Your guest count
- Your aesthetic
- Which suppliers are available
Popular Hampshire wedding venues often book 18–24 months in advance for peak summer Saturdays. If you’re newly engaged and dreaming of May–September, it’s wise to start viewings early.
Once your venue is confirmed, everything begins to fall into place.
4. Book Your Key Suppliers Early (Especially Your Photographer)
After securing your venue, your next priority bookings should be:
- Photographer – Feel free to have a look at my Wedding page!
- Videographer – I can recommend a few that I have worked with.
- Planner (if having one)
- Band or DJ
As a Hampshire wedding photographer, I only take on a limited number of weddings each year to give each couple the experience they deserve — and most established suppliers work the same way.
When choosing your photographer, look beyond beautiful imagery. Ask yourselves:
- Do we feel comfortable with them?
- Can we imagine spending most of our wedding day with them?
- Do we trust their experience?

Your photographer is there during the quiet, emotional moments — and the wild dance floor ones too. The connection matters just as much as the portfolio.
5. Build an Experienced Hampshire Supplier Team
One of the biggest advantages of getting married in Hampshire is the strong community of experienced wedding suppliers.
Florists, stylists, celebrants and entertainers who regularly work together create a seamless flow to the day. They know the light, the timings, the layouts — and that makes everything feel calmer.
And calm couples always have the best wedding days.
I have been photographing weddings in Hampshire since 2015, I have many connections with local suppliers so always feel free to ask if google scrolling is overwhelming!
6. Plan in Layers, Not All at Once
It’s easy to feel like you need to choose:
- Your colour palette
- Bridesmaid dresses
- Table décor
- Favours
- Signage
Immediately.
But wedding planning works best in stages:
- Vision
- Budget
- Venue
- Key suppliers
- Guest list
- Styling details
Trying to skip ahead often leads to overwhelm. Give yourselves permission to plan gradually.
7. Keep the Focus Where It Belongs
After photographing so many weddings across Hampshire, the ones that feel the most magical aren’t necessarily the most elaborate.
They’re the ones where couples felt present.
The planning was thoughtful. The timeline allowed breathing space. The right people were around them.
That energy is something guests feel — and it’s something that photographs beautifully.
