Here are some DIY Wedding Ideas & Trends You’ll Want to Try in 2025.

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming and lets be honest, expensive. But when you’re a couple who loves to create and wants to put a personal stamp on the day, DIY weddings are the perfect solution. From rustic details to personalised favours, DIY weddings are a great way to add your own uniqueness and helps you invest your money where it’s needed and worth it.

Over the last few months, my partner and I have enjoyed evenings creating wedding related stuff for our own Spring wedding. It’s been awesome watching it all come together! Finding sustainable options for our wedding whilst having the DIY wedding element to it has been really important to us.

Remember to plan your time. Quite often, DIY weddings can take double the time you think they might and factor in teh time you need to learn a skill to help with your crafting. Ask family and friends to help too! Don’t be afraid to ask people to help with small projects to help with your wedding, but give them a heads up and play to peoples strengths and interests.

1. Personalized ceremony arches

Instead of renting a wedding arch, why not create your own with flowers, greenery, or fabric that matches your theme? Get creative with wooden frames, rustic branches, or even repurposed doors to make your ceremony space memorable. Adding things like potted plants or a living floral arch that can be replanted after the wedding is both unique and eco-friendly. Sustainability supported and you have something from your wedding that can grow or become a cute feature in your garden.

2. Make your own confetti

Making your own confetti is fun and you can create a handful of wonderful scents that’s also 100% bio degradable! We have had a lot of fun collecting flowers, drying them out and then cutting them up into our collection box. We added dried out mint to ours from our herb garden, mixed with rose petals and all of the petals from flowers we have been sent or flowers we have grown or foraged, we have colourful and fresh scented confetti for our day!

3. Wedding website

A website is by no means a replacement for beautifully handcrafted invitations. It all comes down to your preferences as a couple. If you have always imagined sending invites with matching RSVP’S and coordinating ribbons, then go on and skip this tip as it’s important to seek out the wants for your wedding! But, for those thinking about budget or have concerns about sustainability and paper usage, look at how a wedding website could give your guests all the information you would like them to have and still be able to create a look that goes with your wedding.

4. Friend let ceremony

Why not have a friend lead your ceremony? For non religious ceremonies this is a great way to have a ceremony that is personal to you both led by someone who knows you both well! It also means that when you do the ‘legal bit’ at the registry office, you can save money by having the statutory ceremony with just your two witnesses.

5. Bouquets

I have loved creating my bouquet. I couldn’t find what exactly what I had envisioned, so I gave it a go myself! Using dried flowers means you have the time to add and adjust as you want over time. Make it bigger, make it smaller, change the flowers and so on. If you are wanting to create your own bouquet dried flowers or fresh, allow yourself time to practice and find the floral’s you are wanting! If you are struggling to create what you are wanting, practicing ahead of the day gives you time to learn.

6. Centrepiece’s

Centrepieces can be as big and vibrant a you want or as simple and personal as you desire. From small glasses with small posy sized floral’s in to your favourite books, picture’s of you both on your favourite trips or something that ties in your theme, if you have one. Your centrepieces can be anything you want and cost little to nothing, especially if it’s something you already have! For extra loveliness, include an anniversary card on the table that your guests can sign! A different number for every table so you can open an anniversary card every year for years to come from the people that celebrated your special day with you!

7. Sustainability

You can find some great bits for your wedding in charity shops, car boot sales reuse websites or communities. Someone may have already had a wedding with a similar vibe to what you are wanting, social media groups for weddings are worth looking through for wedding decor! From crockery to vases and other decor, add your own style and incorporate your wedding look by accessorising and adapting. Not only dose this support how you spend your money, it also supports the environment and prevents waste.

8. Favours

If you are wanting to give favours to your guests but want to keep it eco friendly but also, for it to be something useful that your guests will use, there are a few favourites of mine…

  • Freshly potted herbs – You can grow these yourself leading up to the big day!
  • Fresh flower seeds or wild flower seeds – Maybe a flower from your wedding or a flower that has an important meaning to you or your guest/s.
  • Sponsor the planting of a tree or make a donation towards saving the rainforest and let your guests know you have done this in their name!
  • Make little candles in jars with a scent that you associate with your wedding and let your guests be reminded of the day when they light it.
  • If you are a handy in the kitchen, how about making up some preserves that go with the season of your wedding!
  • Skip favours altogether and make a donation to a charity close to your hearts in the name of your guests. Leave a little note letting your guests know and how they can find out more about the charity.

9. Playlist

You might choose to have part of your day accompanied by live music for the ceremony or the party end or you might not. Music, like any part of your wedding is your choice. There’s no ‘you have to’ or ‘you must’. Only what you choose for your day that fits in with your wants and your budget. Playlists can be a great way for guests to contribute and everyone gets to hear a song they love to dance to!

10. Always remember, It’s your day!

Each individual wedding supplier is a master at what they do. They take time over perfecting their craft and thrive on giving couples a wonderful experience for their wedding day. DIY weddings give couples the freedom to add their own flare and to create parts of their day that they can look back on and remember teh fun or the disaster a particular craft was.

Being realistic about what’s important to you both to spend your money on is the best place to start with planning any wedding.
