The Importance of a Pre-Wedding Photo Shoot: Capturing the Magic Before the Big Day

Jun 15, 2024 | Engagement photoshoot, Wedding Photographer Hampshire

Pre Wedding shoots or Engagement shoots are a really good way to get to know your photographer and how they work.

On your Wedding day, your photographer will be the only supplier (other than the venue) that spends the whole day with you. Having that time to chat and take some photos before the big day helps ease any anxiety about being photographed!

Many of my couples tell me that they don’t like having their photo taken or they feel they aren’t photogenic. But here’s the thing, your wedding photos aren’t selfies where you take about 30 and are happy with one, I know, I am one of those people haha. The photography happens around everything else, it tells a story of your day as it unfolds. Some of it may be posed like your group shots, but for the most the photography is a record of your day, in beautiful picture form! On a Pre-Wedding shoot, I like to give my couples some insight and experience of what being photographed by me will be like, ahead of the big day!

Why Have a Pre-Wedding Shoot?

A wedding marks one of the most significant milestones in a couple’s journey together. As you plan every detail to make your big day perfect, remember to book your pre-wedding photo shoot in good time. Not only does it offer a unique opportunity to capture beautiful memories before your wedding, but it also brings numerous other benefits that can enhance your overall wedding experience. Here’s why you should have a pre-wedding photo shoot:

1. Get Comfortable with Your Photographer

Your wedding day will be filled with countless moments that you’ll want to cherish forever, and your photographer plays a crucial role in capturing these. A pre-wedding photo shoot provides a chance for you and your partner to get to know your photographer and their style. It allows you to build a rapport and feel more comfortable in front of the camera. This familiarity can significantly ease any nerves and ensure that you look relaxed and natural in your wedding photos.

2. Create Stunning Visuals for Your Wedding

The photos from your pre-wedding shoot can be used in various creative ways to enhance your wedding. They can be included in your wedding invitations, save-the-date cards, and wedding website. These personalised touches add a unique and intimate feel to your wedding communication. Additionally, you can display these photos at your wedding reception, creating a beautiful narrative of your love story for your guests to enjoy.

4. Document Your Love Story

A pre-wedding photo shoot is a perfect opportunity to document you as a couple in a meaningful way. Choose locations that hold special significance to you as a couple, whether it’s the place where you first met, your favourite date spot, or a scenic destination you both love. These photos will serve as a beautiful reminder of your journey together, capturing the essence of your relationship before you embark on the next chapter.

5. Practice Makes Perfect

Your wedding day will be filled with excitement and emotions, and having a pre-wedding shoot can be a great rehearsal. It gives you a chance to practise posing, smiling, and interacting with each other in front of the camera without the pressure of the wedding day timeline. By the time your wedding arrives, you’ll feel like pros! Helping any photo nerves you may have.

6. Add Fun and Joy to Your Wedding Preparations

Wedding planning can be stressful, but a pre-wedding photo shoot offers a fun and joyful break from the planning hustle. It’s a chance to dress up, spend quality time together, and celebrate your love in a relaxed setting. This enjoyable experience can bring you closer and remind you why you’re getting married in the first place.

7. Create Lasting Memories

While your wedding day will be filled with incredible moments, a pre-wedding photo shoot allows you to create additional memories that are equally special. These candid, romantic, and sometimes playful photos will become cherished keepsakes that you can look back on fondly for years to come. They capture a unique time in your life that is filled with anticipation, excitement, and love.

So If I haven’t already said it….

A pre-wedding photoshoot is more than just a photography session; it’s an investment in your wedding experience. It helps you build a connection with your photographer, boosts your confidence in front of the camera, and provides stunning visuals that can be used throughout your wedding. Most importantly, it captures the magic of your love story in a beautiful and meaningful way. So, as you plan your dream wedding, make sure to think about having a Pre-Wedding shoot!
